Job Description
Hours: 9-5 / M-F
Job Summary:
Responsible for reaching out to customers to collect payment for overdue bills or other payments. Acts as a liaison between creditors and customers and manages overdue accounts.
Job Responsibilities:
- Collect payments on past due bills
- Keep track of assigned accounts to identify outstanding debts
- Record information about the financial status of customers and the status of collection efforts
- Locate and notify customers of delinquent accounts by mail and telephone to solicit payment
- Arrange for debt repayment or establish repayment schedules, based on customers’ financial situation
- Advise customers of necessary actions and strategies for debt repayment
- Answer customer questions regarding problems with their accounts
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Create trust relationships with debtors when possible to avoid future issues
- Sort and file correspondence and perform miscellaneous clerical duties, such as answering correspondence and writing reports
- Update account status and database regularly
- Comply with requirements when legal action is unavoidable
- Follow federal and state laws dealing with debt collection
Job Requirements
Job Requirements:
- Proven experience as a debt collector / 2+ years
- Proficiency in working with Microsoft Office
- Experience in working with targets and tight deadlines
- Knowledge of relevant legal requirements
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Ability to be polite and compassionate without lacking confidence
- Proven ability to overcome obstacles and get results
- Ability to manage time with little supervision
