Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary
The Jr. Accountant manages daily accounting tasks such as preparing and maintaining financial statements, payroll, maintenance of the general ledger, and compiling reports and balance sheets. Reviews, codes, and verifies transactions and journal entries.
Essential Functions

- Review the computation of pay and associated deductions for accuracy
- Assist in completing moderately complex calculations using spreadsheets and other software tools
- Reconcile accounts and bank statements
- Enter accounting data into the system
- Process accounts payables and receivables transactions
- Research and resolve discrepancies in a timely fashion
- Maintain the accounting department’s softcopy and hardcopy records and files
- Calculate and process accurate payments to employees by check, or electronic transfer, ensuring strict deadlines are met
- Prepare financial reports and various accounting statements
- Post journal entries to the general ledger
- Assist the Payroll Administrator and the Director of Accounting with handling and responding to discrepancies and queries relating to payroll and other accounting issues as needed
- Assist with submitting and processing direct deposit payments to the bank as needed
- Assist with processing employee W-4 withholdings, garnishments, child support, etc. as needed
- Assist with processing Federal (EFTPS) and State (EDD) Tax deposits
- Assist with preparing year-end W-2s as needed
- Provide professional and courteous customer service to all employees
- Assist with reconciling benefit bills monthly as needed
- Generate summary sheets to be used by managers or auditor
- Proof accounting reports for clerical accuracy
- Allocate expenditures to correct accounts according to departmental procedures
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as directed.
Job Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- BSc/BA in accounting, finance, or relevant field and one (1) year experience working as a Jr. Accountant.
- High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) to seven (7) years experience in bookkeeping/accounting; Associate’s Degree in Business or Accounting preferred
- At least three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting; related business school or college courses may be substituted for up to one year of experience
- Previous experience with Deltek/Costpoint is a must
- Experience using computerized accounting software is a must
- Previous experience which demonstrates numeracy and literacy skills
- Proficient in MS Word and Excel
- Experience creating and using spreadsheets
- Must of have knowledge of Payroll Practices
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Familiarity with SCA and H&W a plus
- Knowledge of government contracting practices a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs (especially Excel)
- Ability to function well under pressure and in a high-paced and at times, stressful environment.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines
Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)
- U.S. Citizen
- Valid U.S. Driver License
